When Laurie Strode tried to trap Michael Myers, he escaped and kept going on with his killing spree, bringing the horror to an end once and for all. There are a lot of people in Haddonfield who don't like Myers because Laurie got hurt and had to be taken to the hospital. A vigilante mob is formed (updated article) by the Strode ladies and other survivors to put an end to Michael's reign of terror once and for all
When Halloween was released in 1978, it cost merely $300,000 to produce the first slasher film. Michael Myers was first presented to the public in this film, and the franchise has continued ever since. ...except for this one, provided you don't mind the idea that the 2018 film will disregard the events of almost the whole trilogy.
